NOTICE - PHC AGM 2020

Pelicans Hockey Club hereby give notice of the Annual General Meeting which will be held from 5:30pm on 28 June 2020. All members are invited to attend.

We also notify you of a proposed amendment to Section 7 of the Club Constitution (Your Committee).

Due to the current Covid-19 social distancing restrictions, all paid-up members will be invited to a closed Facebook group (via a link which will be sent your email no later than Monday 15 th June 2020) within which members can view the treasurer, chairman, secretary, PGP reports in advance.

All necessary member voting will be conducted during the meeting by means of live Poll and sent email to accommodate those who do not have facebook.

The AGM Agenda will be issued on Monday 15 th June 2020 via email and on the PHC Facebook page and will include details of proxy votes and how to submit written and email comments in advance.

Any items for discussion including proposed or objections to rule changes, should be forwarded to The Club Secretary Nicola Pluck or any other Executive member no later than Sunday 14 th June 2020.

The committee have agreed by unanimous vote that under the current circumstances this would be the fairest format to best reflect an ordinary AGM meeting. We thank you for your cooperation and forbearance.

Leadership Academy - Hockey Leaders course completed

The course took place at Lynnsport and was tutored by Sam Beveridge from England Hockey. The Leaders looked at how to coach young players and how to umpire games.

We look forward to seeing the 19 Leaders helping out at the SSP Primary Quicksticks Festival in Oct and helping out at the club at Saturday morning Junior sessions.

2019-20 Subscription & Membership

Dear Pelican,

It’s that time of the year again with the new season just around the corner and Subscriptions are now due, therefore this seasons Membership/Subscription form (in Word & pdf formats) are available to download at the bottom of this article.

Please complete the form and send your payment to me to the address on the top of the form (do not send cash through the post!) - cheques should be made payable to 'Pelicans Hockey Club'. The Club is happy to accept payment via electronic bank transfer, the account details are Sort Code: 20-46-65 Account No. 00707236 - please use your full name as the payment reference. Please also email me the completed form at the time of making electronic payment to make reconciliation of payments received easier.

ALL Subscriptions need to be paid in full before you are eligible and insured to play hockey for Pelicans HC - this means I need to receive your payment before 1st September 2019.

N.B. - as with most hockey clubs Pelicans HC do not operate a 'pay as you play' subscription system.

The following is a reminder of the Subscriptions & Match Fee for the forthcoming season;

1) Senior Members over 18 years of age and in full time employment – Subscription = £125 and Match Fee = £10.

2) Senior Members over 18 years of age but not in full time employment, those in FULL TIME education and those members aged 14 to 18 (as of 1st September 2019, School Year 10 and above) – Subscription = £75 and Match Fee = £6.

3) Junior Members aged 13 and under (as of 1st September 2019, School Year 9 and below) - Subscription = £55 (please note that if a Junior Member plays in either of the Development teams on a Saturday then a £6 match fee will be payable).

4) One parent of junior members (if not already a playing member) - Subscription = £10

5) A £10 discount is applicable where two members of the same family are paying a full £125 subscription.

Whilst not compulsory, it would be good to see more non-playing spouses/partners & parents take up a Social membership of £20 - please consider this when sending your playing membership.

Player Pathway

Dear Player - Parent,

Further to my email at the close of the 18-19 season. It is great to see that some of the ladies / parents and young Pelicans have joined in the fun summer Tuesday sessions trying a range of different sports, coordinated by our very own Tracy Bower. The Mens section also have training on a Wednesday evening with the summer not so competitive ethos in mind. Make the effort to attend - You may just enjoy it. #BringAFriend #AskSomeOneToGoWithYou.

Since the the release of the Norfolk Hockey 2019-20 Development Centre - summer activity; 173 players have enrolled, booking 550 sessions. 16 of these are young Pelicans taking part in the U12G, U13G, U14G, U16G, U17G, U14B and U16B age groups.

It would be great to see some more players take their first steps onto the EHB Player Pathway by enrolling onto the summer sessions and follow in the footsteps of previous and current players that have progressed through The Player Pathway; Poppy Beales U17G current Bury PC player, Sam Phillips and James Kerry current U17B Bury PC players. (Good luck from all at PHC hoping you make selection to Saxon Tigers after all your hard work and dedication.) #BeTheBestYouCan

The Development Centre is open to the following age groups determined by year of birth and not school year;

2008 - U12 / 2007 - U13 / 2006 - U14 / 2005 - U15 / 2004 - U16 / 2003 - U17

Again if you are unsure if you are suitable then please ask your Pelicans coach from last season. Players that trained on;

Saturday morning - please ask Sean - Jo - Emily - Nick (Apologies if I have missed anyone)

Monday evenings - please ask Paul Swinburn - Sue Picton

Tuesday evenings - please ask Sam Tea / Laura Tea

Thursday evening - please ask Jon Brown - Charlie Lankfer

If as a player you do not have your coaches contact details then please reply to me with your; name, birth year and the day you trained and which team you played in.

New Head Coach

The club is pleased to announce that Wayne Masters has agreed to become the club’s head coach. This is great news for the club.

Wayne will oversee all aspects of coaching for both sections of the club as well as hopefully integrating with the Junior section.

If the training on Saturday is anything to go by then we are all in for some great coaching sessions. It’s all about the stick skills

Wayne started his hockey at Pelicans as a 7-year-old and broke into the 1st team at 14, he also represented the County and East at all age groups. At 18 a career in the Armed Forces started culminating in becoming a member of the elite Parachute Regiment. His hockey continued when not away on operations and captained/managed and coached both the Army and UK Forces teams.

Wayne then moved onto Masters Army hockey and taking on the role of Ladies Army coach, this involved Indoor and Outdoor National League campaigns with an unbeaten record outdoor for 3 years.

Recently retiring from the Army Wayne then focused more on playing and coaching at various levels including developing players and coaches to further their own individual hockey careers.

While still living in Colchester Wayne has been heavily involved with Colchester Hockey Club over the years but over the last 18 months the committee has been in talks with Wayne to bring him home! Wayne played for the club for the 2nd half of last season and was impressed with the set up/aspirations and attitude of the club that he has agreed to this role.

The club is keen to get both the Men and Ladies playing at the levels it has been at in the past and we believe Wayne has the knowledge and experience to take us on this exciting journey.

Wayne’s philosophy of train hard/fight easy will help us as a club to push forward to the next level, the commitment required to succeed is a big ask but if we can implement that and do all we can then everything will fall into place.

Further announcements to follow on coaches who will be working alongside Wayne to bring the best opportunities to all.

Please look out for more details of when proper training starts but, in the meantime, please continue to support Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as these are great ways of getting the body and mind working for the season ahead.

I’m sure you will all join the committee in wishing Wayne well in his new role
